At Oyster Design Studio, I
create original, contemporary stained glass and mixed media art on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
I “paint with light” by transforming
glass into distinctive, colorful compositions that evoke the
joy and the beauty of nature on Cape Cod.
returned to Massachusetts with my family during the Covid-19 pandemic and was captivated by
the art of stained glass. I have always
been drawn to art but I had not practiced since college. In this time of turmoil, polarization, and uncertainty, I found that working with stained glass and mixed media art was a hopeful, beautiful, inspiring, and therapeutic practice. Given
interest in my work, I established Oyster Design Studio, LLC, where I create one-of-a-kind works of art in stained glass and mixed media.
I learned the Tiffany copper foil method from stained glass mentor, Neil Maciejewski-Johnson in Cotuit, MA. In my mixed media practice, I have studied at the Truro Center for the
Arts at Castle Hill and the Cotuit Center for the Arts. Teacher,
print-maker, and mixed media artist, Barbara Ford Doyle has
significantly influenced my print work. I use monotypes, Selphy emulsion
lifts, gelatin plates, and collage. I find that the inspiration behind collage also affects my strained glass process.
Instead of copying a pre-set pattern, I often create my own designs and follow a creative process that I call “free-flow.” My inspiration comes from each individual
piece of glass. I carefully hand select my glass and create designs that feature the natural beauty of the individual
pieces with attention to my vision for the overall composition. I design organic and asymmetric projects
inspired by nature, carefully combining color, texture, pattern, opacity, and
negative space to form each unique work. I
integrate geodes, sea glass, fused glass, and other found and natural objects into my
compositions to enhance their authenticity. Patina finish enhances the
natural weathered feel and visual impact of her designs. Cape Cod inspires many of my designs focused
on the beach, the ocean, and it's creatures.
I placed my first sculpture in a gallery in December 2021. Since then, my work has appeared in exhibitions at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Cotuit Center for the Arts, the Davis Gallery of the Woodruff Art Center, at the Sandwich Arts Alliance, and the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck in Gloucester, MA. My work has also appeared at the Creative Liberties galleries in Sarasota, Florida and I am excited to expand my presence further this year. Please check my EXHIBITIONS/EVENTS page above or my intstagram @oysterdesignstudio for posts about upcoming shows. You can select one of my creative designs or we can collaborate to craft your own vision through a commission
piece for your home or business.
